Construction Club Group (K-4)

Uniquely designed by Speech Pathologists AND Occupational Therapists, our Construction Club Groups use collaborative activities to support the development of critical skills. Using LEGO® based therapy, children are grouped into teams to work cooperatively to complete LEGO® and construction projects. Each child has the opportunity to work in different roles and practice skills, such as listening, turn-taking, negotiation, sharing, problem-solving and working together.

The group will target skills including:

  • Using LEGO® and construction materials as a medium to communicate and build relationships
  • Promote social interaction & cooperation
  • Promote collaborative play in a supported environment
  • Practice following and giving directions, negotiation and compromise
  • Foster collaborative problem-solving
  • Encourage teamwork, flexible thinking and working towards a shared goal
  • In Kindergarten – Year 4
  • Sit and engage in tasks for at least 5 minutes.
  • Use 4-5 words in a sentence to communicate needs, wants and ideas
  • Display turn taking and sharing skills (with encouragement)
  • Independently move around a room without the need for physical support
  • Follow simple 1 step instructions
  • Able to separate from parent or carer and participate in group activities for up to 3 hours
